Hi there! (First Post...so be gentle!) If my site's #1 in ODP for my keywords, why hasn't it shown up in Google at all? I thought ODP supplied the directory results...am I missing something important? Thanks in advance! it takes a little while for google to pick up the ODP listings for its index and even longer to pick up for the google directory. With the way google has been, it may not pick up your site for a while. Oh great. Lots of work for nuthin. Oh well, at least we're showing up in the other ...

I have noticed today that Google is using the Google directory description in the general serps has anyone else noticed this today? Maybe just a test but it will make it difficult to get the description as you would prefer. Can't see them allowing any marketing jargon. http://forums.seochat.com/t24757/s.html Originally Posted by werebear it will make it difficult to get the description as you would prefer. I noticed today that my site can't be found via google's directory tab search. I am listed in DMOZ but all searches for my site via name or via keywords does not bring my site up. I was hit hard via florida update I went from 5-600-60- today which I am now listed at 70 for my main keywords. I have done some deop and removed a required doorway page. My question for others hit by florida: Can you be found for your keywords or sitename in the google directory? Here is the reply I got from google: Thank you ...

Has anyone noticed that alot of key searches for any term are giving 'bogus' sites that have used the ODP database? They are basically sites that create pages on every search made e.g. britney spears and put the search term in a h1 tagand title tag then have google adsense, then results from searching for britney spears in the Dmoz. Why does google like these pages? Is it because there is a flaw in their system or because they have data from the ODP which google really likes? The only reason i brought this ...

If your web site is listed in the Open Directory Project (ODP, dmoz.org) then Google and MSN will often use the text that the ODP uses to describe your web site in their own search results. Unfortunately, the descriptions in the Open Directory Project are often outdated and they don't reflect the current status of a web site. That means that your web site might be listed with an outdated description in the search results on Google and MSN. But How can you Prevent Search Engines From Using Open Directory ...

If my site is ODP listed and Google is using my ODP name as the HTML title and that name has no keywords in it, is there a potential ranking benefit in using the NO ODP tag to replace it with a better optimised HTMl Title or is it purely cosmetic? I am guesisng that "under the hood" Google is still seeing the keywords in your real title and it will make no odds, but it's an interesting question... I am refering to: <meta name="robots" content="noodp"> If anyone knows the answer to this I'd be grateful for ...

I just check my site for one of my terms and saw that Google had my ODP listing now active! This is great news. If you keep searching though the DCs alternate and you won't see it again. Not sure which DC it is on. But it seems they are updating them! I am pretty new to all of this terminology, what does ODP & DC mean in newbie terms? ODP = Open Directory Project (what Google's Directory is based on)... http://www.dmoz.org DC = Data Center (Google has various data centers where the Google index is ...

After applying for acceptance into dmoz how long befoe you know if you are accepted and how do you know if you have been accepted. Thanks It took me 3 years but I did everything wrong for 3 years. What does it take for you to get into the Google Drirectory? You must get into dmoz.com. What if you have been in the DMOZ, but yet, 3 weeks later, still not in GOOGLE directory? It takes time for ODP (dmoz.org) to give google a dump of its directory. Google and ODP have no pattern and they do it when they like. Thanks again RB!
