For img placeholders for design, you can quickly generate the image by using <img src="http://dummyimage.com/WIDTHxHEIGHT" /> examples: http://dummyimage.com/200x150 http://dummyimage.com/400x340 Why not just use <img src="nothing" width="200px" height="150px" /> and not have to rely on a 3rd-party website? The only thing I can come up with is that the dummy images include a dimension label.
