Howdy, I'm running XP Pro SP2 on a Compaq computer. The audio is RealTek AC 97. A couple weeks ago, I had to reformat and re-install the operating system. Now, in the soundcard recording controls, some of the options are missing.......all that shows up are "Line-in" , "microphone", and "CDPlayer", with the sliders and the select boxes. Before I re-installed XP, there was an option for "Stereo Mix" (or "What You Hear" ?) It's no longer there. I checked the options/properties, and "Stereo Mix" wasn't listed ...

I have windows xp and the sound has stopped working. The problem seem to be the c-media AC97 audio device which tells me that the device cannot start (code 10). I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, and have been to microsoft update but their scan doesn't pick up the problem. I also searched their website for the above, but get no results. Has anybody any ideas what I should do next? Have you tried updating the drivers? Should be able to find them at your motherboard manufacturer's website. Have you ...

I have not had sound since late November. I'm running Windows XP SP2 and I believe the problem started when I downloaded SP2. Some undefined time after I would start up my computer, my sound would just stop. When I would check the Device Manager, it would show Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer with a yellow exclamation point over it. So, I would uninstall it, reboot my computer, and have sound again. A little while later, sound would disappear. I got so sick of doing this every time that I just disabled ...

I'm pretty sure I that was never there before and it has an exclamation point next to it. I tried uninstalling it but it re-installed it's self after a reboot. In "Sound and Audio devices" it says I don't have any audio device installed. Any help would be appreciated. did you build your PC or is it from a manufacturer?
